Biography

Deirdre Hayden graduated from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design in 2002 with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art.

Her work comprises many mediums including sculpture, painting and installation, all of which are informed by an intuitive response to the form of the subject matter or connection with the material and process. Deploying a rich multiplicity of reference from modified ready-mades to the reconstruction of objects trouvés, each piece shares a commonality in that the base forms are transformative. In contrast to her sculptural works her paintings have a fluidity that is less involved in the detail and minutiae of surface and more are more concerned with our interior architecture, a projection of our intellectual and emotional energy.

Hayden has had numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Selected awards and residencies include Wicklow County Councils Artist Development Award, Sargadelos Residency, Galicia, Spain. Permanent public sculptures include works in County Mayo and Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Her work has been acquired by many collections including The Office of Public Works and The Sargedelos Collection in Madrid.
